We use both digital and physical prototypes in design and to verify that solutions work as intended. Our own ProtoHUB is equipped to tackle even the toughest design challenges and turn complex ideas into something tangible. Our services are ideally suited to developing the functionality and user experience of products and services.
Our 200-square-meter LINK ProtoHUB in Espoo is available to your organization. It is equipped with machinery and tools for rapid experiments and prototype production. Our capabilities include welding, painting, woodworking, turning, circuit board assembly, and 3D printing.
Prototyping for Different Needs
Prototyping and testing are carried out at different stages of product and service development, using different methods to meet different needs. Here are a few examples:
PoC – Proof of Concept and Mockup
A PoC is often the first physical, tangible version of an idea. It makes the concept concrete and enables it to be presented, tested, and challenged. A PoC focuses on the critical aspects that need to be evaluated, giving us greater confidence in the product or customer solution before the final version is designed in detail. Mockups, or appearance models, are tangible representations of a physical product. They are typically produced quickly and in several alternatives alongside 2D drawings and 3D models to support decision-making.
Prototype
A prototype resembles the final product in many ways but is produced using rapid manufacturing methods. It allows us to test real-life use cases and gather feedback, including from customers. Prototypes are used in the design of both digital and physical products and to verify that products function as intended.
MVP – Minimum Viable Product
An MVP allows us to take a service that meets the minimum requirements for succeeding independently in the market into customer testing—or potentially even into sales. It provides information about the service’s potential before the final version has been developed. An MVP accelerates the collection of broader user feedback, making it possible to prioritize the features required for final development. It also generates development ideas from customers that can significantly improve the service’s chances of success.
Testing from the earliest stages of design helps prevent unpleasant surprises and reduces costs later in the process.
